Our clients wanted the look and feel of a high quality 'Manor House' kitchen that was in sympathy with their period farmhouse and its original features. The kitchen had to look as though it had been in place for generations, but work with modern family life.
We made the kitchen using Sepele, a red hardwood similar to Mahogany that was widely used in the Victorian era. The use of turned pillars, replica moldings and details such as the small 'wood-on-wood' working drawers and large mantle piece all helped to provide the right look. The furniture was then hand painted and distressed to provide the comforting warmth of furniture that has been loved and used for many generations. The solid granite worktops were 'honed' to give a more traditional matt finish and the wall units were kept simple, one plate rack and one glazed cupboard in which to house the best china and glassware. The look was completed with a large free standing larder cupboard and heavy island unit with thick maple worktop, designed to not only discretely house the combination cooker and provide extra storage and workspace, but to double as a dining table, complete with matching stools that can be tucked neatly away. |
